I’ve been having an epic make up moment lately and in order to convince my bank manager that my appalling spending habits are actually important research, I thought I’d tell you about some of my top picks.
Lancôme Lip Lover
I’ve fallen big time for Lancôme’s newbie, Lip Lover, although when I sat down to think why that might be the best reason I could come up with was because I really like the clicky lid. It’s got a little button that makes it pop off like an automatic umbrella! Amazing. Admittedly, Lancôme isn’t a brand I think of that often. My paternal grandmother was always a huge fan of their skincare and as such (sorry, Lancome) I’ve always overlooked them a bit. SHAME ON ME.
The product itself is basically a fancy gloss but with a balm-like feel and, depending on the colour you pick, a hefy whack of pigment. I’ve got three of the suckers on the go and I lurve Rose des Nymphes, a pretty deep pink, and Orange Manege (which is more coral than orange, actually) but I’m less keen on the hero shade, Lip Lover. It’s altogether too wimpy a shade for me but if you’re looking for a sheer pink with less commitment, then it could be the one for you.
The two swatches in the picture are Lip Lover and Rose des Nymphes, you can see the difference in pigment. I couldn’t find Orange Manege so you haven’t got that. Turns out it was in the bottom of my handbag, discovered three days later. Obviously.
The texture is lovely and very hydrating, it’s all I can do not to keep reapplying just to smack my lips together and pout at passersby (frowned upon in NYC). Also, reapplying means repeated play with the clicky lid. Longevity-wise, it’s not the longest lasting lippy but it doesn’t claim to be. It’s just very, very nice. They’re £18 each in the UK and clearly, not exactly a bargain but a) clicky lid b) pretty packaging and c) really great product. Worth the indulgence, especially if you’ve got a billion Boots points hanging around.
