Our June book selections are here!
I received several messages from bookclub members over the last couple of days, asking if we could use this month’s picks to amplify the voices of writers of colour.
The truth is, I don’t receive nearly as many books for bookclub consideration from POC as I do from white writers, because writers of colour are less likely to find an agent, less likely to get a book deal and less likely to be marketed as well as their contemporaries. They’re being denied a career and you’re being denied amazing books. The only way to change this, is to boost these writers whenever we can and make sure everyone is given the same chance to book their stories in your hands.
With that in mind, we’ve got three brilliant choices this month:
The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett
Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams
Last Tang Standing by Lauren Ho
